BikeHike Adventures

BikeHike Adventures offers small group multisport adventures. We specialize in Costa Rica, Belize, Ecuador, Peru and Chile. Next year Turkey, New Zealand and Cuba are up and coming destinations for us. All of our trips are active and combine a multitude of activities from mountain biking, rock climbing and horseback riding to sea kayaking, whitewater rafting and canopy touring. Our routes are through remote wilderness settings , keeping travelers off the beaten track, We understand that people come in all shapes and sizes and have different ability levels, and we've rated our trips accordingly from easy to moderate to challenging, We also specialize in custom adventures for families, honeymooners and groups of friends. We wake at the crack of dawn, refortify with a hearty breakfast and hop on our bikes for a ride on dirt roads to the put in on the river. The next 15 miles is a river descent on the Pacuare River, carving our way through a lush river valley. Lunch is a picnic on the riverbank and then we cast off again for a few more exciting rapids. For the hearty souls amongst the group, theres a 20 foot cliff jump ahead into a emerald pool in the rainforest. At take out our support vehicle awaits us with mountain bikes geared and ready to go. The final frontier is an ascent up Mt. Talamanca, winding our way up to our retreat for the night, a mountaintop lodge up in the clouds. Dinner, wine, beer and massages are on tonights agenda for all.

Our clients range in age between 25-50 although we do get many younger and older as well. Theres an even split of men to women who come from all over North America and some European countries but always English speaking. We have a very high percentage of single travelers, about 70%, because we don't charge a single supplement but rather match solo travelers with other members of the same sex. If we can't find one, we pay the additional charges. We also have a lot of groups of friends and couples who travel with us and almost everyone who joins one of our trips, extends their stay for a few extra days of activity. We specialize in custom adventures. Lastly our typical client is active, but not necessarily skilled in all of the activities we specialize in. They are keen individuals wanting to learn a new skill, and we're there to teach them.

Each trip is unique, and its necessary to check the individual itineraries, however on average, accommodations are mostly in small family run guesthouses with a couple of nights of camping. We choose hotels that are clean, comfortable and have charm and character. Most have private bath and hot water, although for some of our more backcountry trips, we get the best available, and sometimes that means basic lodgings with dormitory style rooms.

We ask that our clients do not smoke in their bedrooms when sharing with non-smoking roommates. We regret that pets are not appropriate on BikeHike Adventures, which is unfortunate, because we have an office of animal lovers, but imagine a dog on a bike, somehow I cannot. On our fixed departures our minimum age is 12 and maximum is negotiable, depending on the person. For our customized adventures we can accept clients of all ages.

Again each trip is unique but as an average, trips are priced approximately $160 US per day. These rates include most meals, all accommodation, equipment, transportation, guides, airport transfers and sometimes internal flights. International airfare is additional.

We definitely offer discounts to groups of 4 or more travelers. With ten paying customers the 11th travels for free. Thats an incentive!
