We are adjacent to 800+ acres of public land with a wonderful large pond/lake and numerous hiking and nordic skiing trails. Snowmobile and ski trails cross our property as well as this public land. The capitol of Maine in nearby Augusta offers a wealth of cultural attractions including the newly renovated State House, Olmstead-designed capitol park, the Maine State Museum, and Old Fort Western which once guarded the head of tide in the Kennebec River. Hallowell, where the Inn is located, offers a varied selection of restaurants and unique antique and other shops in a national historic district on the banks of the Kennebec River. Really lots to do in the area, but off the beaten track without lots of tourists. We offer 8 rooms with all private baths. Some rooms have HUGE whirlpool tubs big enough for two to comfortably relax with six powerful jets. Some rooms have fireplaces, and others private decks, too. See our website for more details. We are on 130 acres of serene rolling fields and woods with many trails and a secluded swimming pond just inside the woods. Visit the menagerie of farm animal pets down at the barn after breakfast, or feed them through the fence anytime! Room to feel at home with a common living room, dining room, pub, common guest kitchen with refrigerator, sink, and microwave, and art gallery featuring local artists providing lots of common space. You won't feel overcrowded while relaxing in country comfort.

The Black Duck is located on the Schoodic Peninsula, home to the only mainland section of Acadia National Park and also hosts a portion of the Petite Manan National Wildlife Refuge. The Peninsula has nearly 5 lighthouses located within its bounds or off shore. Schoodic consists of several small fishing villages like Corea - the scenery is some of the best in Maine with hiking trails nearby, as well as fabulous kayaking waters and scenery for painting and photography. Only 45 minutes from Mt. Desert Island, the main part of Acadia National Park. Other wildlife refuges are not far away. Campobello Island, FDR's old summer estate is only about 1.5 hrs, north/east in the Canadian Province of New Brunswick, across an "international" bridge. That area hosts 2 incredible lighthouses and amazing coastal scenery and makes a terrific day trip.
The Black Duck is sited on over 12 acres of rock outcrop, heath, blueberry fields, harbor frontage and hidden bays. We have several nature trails throughout the property and direct access to Corea Harbor. You might see one of our foxes, deer, even perhaps a moose.Corea has been described as a "healing" place .The B&B itself is a restored seaman's home, added on to over the years in a typically New England fashion. It is furnished with antiques and contemporary art, oriental rugs, and has an eclectic but warm feel to it. We have a library area, a TV area, 2 large sitting rooms, and since we only have 4 guest rooms in the house, there are places to hide and read, write or just relax should the weather be foggy or in the evenings. Waldo Emerson Inn is a wonderful recollection of the past. You enter directly into the 255-year-old keeping room with its hand-hewn oak timbers hung with dried flowers, pewter, and copper.
The Waldo Emerson is truly a four-season inn. In spring, the inn and the town are abloom with tulips and daffodils. The air is brisk, the shops and restaurants are open, and the crowds are light. In summer, flowers abound in the inn's gardens. We are just moments from the beach with parking permits and chairs provided. There are dozens of excellent restaurants nearby. In autumn, the Kennebunks put on a spectacular show of fall colors followed by lots of winter activities nearby. Enjoy a mug of fresh-pressed apple cider beside a roaring fire in the parlor.

Maine's Katahdin Region is an outdoor lovers paradise. It is home to Baxter State Park, a 240,000 acre wilderness preserve whose centerpiece is mile high Mt. Katahdin. In Baxter you can climb mountains, walk on forested trails and sit at ponds and watch the moose feed. The West Branch of the Penobscot River offers some of the best whitewater rafting on the East Coast and is renowned for it's salmon fishing. The Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness area is owned by the Nature Conservancy and offers tremendous back country hiking opportunities. Gulf hagas, the "Grand Canyon of Maine" is just down the road as is the State owned Nahmakanta Reserve, another great hiking /canoeing destination.
