Our aim is to offer an intimate and personal experience to our clients affording them the best that East Africa has to offer in terms of the African "Bush" experience. We offer rides to different destinations and which itinerary you choose depends totally on the experience required and the riding skills of the riders.

Makoa-Farm is a fully working 358-acre coffee farm with the perfect terrain for walking, horse riding or just relaxing. In addition to 26 horses it is home to a variety of interesting and fun animals such as donkeys, pigs, cattle, small four-legged creatures like rabbits and guinea pigs and different kinds of poultry and fowl. It will cost you already a few hours to visit all the Makoa-residents and they are all keen to get some attention from visitors.

Further there are safaris to different destinations where we accommodate guests in a comfortable fly-camp, e.g. our Kilimanjaro Big Game Trail. Between the highest point in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru we explore the West Kilimanjaro Wilderness, encountering amongst others elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and lots of different antelope. This is a mobile tented safari for 2-6 experienced riders at a time, making it a very personal experience.

We, your hosts, are both veterinarians and ensure the condition of the horses. Even in the challenging circumstances in the bush the condition of the horses is superb, they are very well trained, fit and surefooted. Rides are at all paces where the terrain permits. The horses are Warm blood, some Arab and Thoroughbred and X, all ridden with bitless tack in a loose rein and relaxed style. There are quality and very comfortable treeless and trail saddles available.

We tailor your horseback safari according to your schedule and requirements from 3 to 11 days. For each tour we offer an alternative program for non-riders, so nobody needs to stay behind.


On Makoa-Farm: Itinerary for meals, activities, excursions etc. as agreed with the guests.

On Safari: Occassionally an early morning ride, usually breakfast at 7 a.m., afterwards start for a 3 - 4 hours ride. Our support vehicle brings lunch to a scenic point where we have picnic. After an extended lunch break another 2 - 3 hours ride to the evening destination, where our crew already set the camp. After a welcome drink a hot shower is waiting for you while the camp chef prepares a delicious dinner.
Some itineraries include a night game drive in an open vehicle.
Enjoy the sparkling stars with the drink before you retreat in your tent and listen to the sounds of the night.

Our rides are for the International traveller looking for genuine long-distance riding in areas of unspoilt natural beauty, on good quality horses and professionally outfitted. A good level of fitness is essential as is the ability to control a lively horse at all paces. We do custom trips in Tanzania and also in Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay.
In safari camp: 8am full breakfast served while you enjoy the great views. 9.30am your horse has been tacked up for you and you set off towards this evenings new location. Ride with guide until lunch about 1pm. Lunch is brought by our support vehicle and served in the shade of a large tree, somewhere out in the wilderness. Siesta until 3pm. Ride during the afternoon till new camp location, arrival approximately 6pm. Your camp has been moved and set up for you and your luggage placed in your tent by our support crew. Drinks, showers, 3 course dinner around the huge campfire. To bed around 11pm. Repeat 7 days.
