There is no 'typical day' on our trips becuase every day is different and unique. All of the riding is far from any busy roads or main tourist traffic routes. The riding terrain is all dirt roads, 4x4 tracks with a taste of single track so manageable for anyone with a good fitness level. Distances vary every day with a couple of 80 and 100km days leaving you feeling like you have achieved something, and some days just 30-60km to allow time to take in the zebras, gazelle and giraffe grazing the plains (if in Africa), chat to the children, visit local families and schools, or to just relax and take in where you are and what you are really doing!

OFF THE RAILS offers cycle tour packages on the historic Otago Central Rail Trail, tailored for those adventurers who like their creature comforts to be well catered for.

The 150km Rail Trail offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore some of the country’s most impressive landscapes on a route not open to motor vehicles.

Guests immerse themselves in this historic region with dedicated hosts and sightseeing options including a turn of the century engineering plant, schist tunnels, historic gold diggings and villages little touched by today’s hustle and bustle.

Mountain biking, Heli biking, and skiing/boarding days are flexible and tailored to individual needs, fitness and skill level. The Fat Tyre and Snowchaser crew and guides are all year round guides with a passion for adventure and have a vast knowledge of the South Island Mountains and trails. All guides are New Zealanders that have lived and played in the region. The mountain bike trails may be some of the most scenic and challenging that you have ever ridden. The Heli bike is spectacular- been lifted to 1700m in a helicopter where the only way is down. We will choose a trail for your ability and fitness. Awesome ATV adventure whether it be on your own wheel motorbike or as a passenger on the amazing 8 wheel, 6 seater Argo. 300 acres of privately owned native forest to explore, with mud like you've never experienced! Plenty of challenge for the experienced rider and all training given to the beginner. Bikes available for anyone over 12 years.
Tours run on demand every day during daylight hours, ranging from a quick 30 minute ride on the bikes for people aged 12 years and over, to a two hour tour of the depths of the forest, to Mike's Mighty Mud Track for serious adventurers.
